Converts at Saksi!

In April, we received an email from our missionary in Saboba that states the following:

There is an issue at hand now that I don't know what to do. One day I was preaching at the Radio station and when it was time for phone-in, a community called in and requested for me to come and start the church for them. The community is called; Saksi. When you check on the District Map I gave you for Saboba, though the community is not mentioned on the Map but you can locate the area. Just check on your Map you find Toma, that is Saboba, trace to Demon, you find a branch road to Nambongbal, that is where you branch right to the place. It is really a distance to Saboba but I was there on Saturday, 14th April, 2012.
The whole community came out and after the preaching 30 people were ready for baptism but unfortunately, no water there or around close by for the baptisms to be done. The only place to get water and do this baptisms is at another community called, Kuntuli towards Saboba and the distance is very far. You can even find Kuntuli on the Map towards Saboba. Those 30 people's names are with me now, but if not hiring a car, there is no way possible for me to do this baptisms. It is really very disturbing but it is also not humanly possible for me. I therefore wants you to pray over this issue, thank you.

A couple of key matters related to the above.  First, our missionary presented us with the idea of him hosting a radio program on a regular basis.  With some generous funding providing by Prestoncrest members, we were able to support this as part of the 2012 budget and it has reaped enormous dividends for the Lord.  Also, it is so humbling to hear what "real issues" are in Ghana...not having transportation to baptize people!

Once again, with some generous funding provided, Prestoncrest was able to provide the funds for a truck to be rented to take these individuals to a water source for baptism.  Just recently, we received the below email and photos.

Greetings from Saboba. I worshiped at Sacksi yesterday with brother Thomas and by God's grace we had 21 New souls for the Lord. Brother Moses was with me and took some pictures and shared with me and so I am sending these to you for your perusal. I gave you my first text message from the village before looking at the list and realised they were rather 21 and not 19 I first mentioned.

Praise God for the work happening in Northern Ghana!

NSAWAM ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST EVANGELISTS MONTHLY REPORTS TO MISSION MISSIONERIES GHANA

MONTH: AUGUST – NOVEMBER, 2011

PROGRAMME SCHEDULED

On the 7/8/11- 28/8/11 a joint evangelism and bible studies in the church in Damdaboli and it surrounding area in the Gusheigu District with Evangelist preton an evangelist from outside to Ghana and a member of Bible Church of Africa to Ghana for two years evangelism. Evangelist Preton stays in Damdaboli and Evangelist at the area there just to win souls for Christ. You know that is my working area also and I am been moving round for our churches teaching and preaching in the Gushegu district. Very and fortunately I met evangelist preton on my way to Damakong the next village to Damdaboli for bible studies on Friday and he stoped me and asked me where am going and I told him I am going to Damankong for Bible Studies. He said he heard of one evangelist from Church of Christ working in the Districts here whether I am the one because the members told him the preacher is using a white D.T motor bike that is why he stoped me to find out. I told him yes I am the one from church of Christ. He said he had a plan with me and the plan is just to work with me because he is to leave Ghana this year and wanted to hand over the churches he established in my hands because the people understand me direct in our local language than any other person because he always goes with interpertitor to the church. Actually I did agreet to work with Evangelist preton and by the grace of God we made a good impact and the work is progress in

The activities I had with preton are follows:

August-September 2011

  1.
Wednesdays 3:30pm Bible studies with only church of members both myself and Mr. Perton
  2. Fridays 20:00pm Evangelism, because they do not go to from on this day and we always meet them at homes and under the trees with the work of God.
  3. Saturday 4:00pm only members of Bible Church of African in Bible studies
  4. Sundays Every two weeks the churches have to come together as a joint worship both church of Christ and Bible church of Africa

With all those the white man made it known to them that by this year he will be leaving back home and for that matter he is handing over his Churches in my care. What even made me happy is that, any time there is Baptism he bring the follow to me to be baptize.

On the same month of 9/08/-11/8/11 we distributed some used clothing for some churches around Yendi and three churches in Gushegu.

We were blessed by some used clothing for village of hope in Accra to Yendi to be distributed to some church in the area. We were all happy about the used clothing which have been donated by the village of hope to our local churches here because many of our church are lacking clothing. Sometimes what they churches used for farms also used for church. The churches who had the clothing were very happy about it and also blessed those who donated them.

Those are the churches who had the clothing in the Yendi area.

  1. Andoyili
  2. D. C kuraa
  3. Bachaborido
  4. Gbamgiga
  5. Duuni
  6. Bakpba
  7. Kuga
  8. Kanimo
  9. Yendi

All these churches were distributed on the first and second day. We are still praying if God blessed and we have more we will be happy because some of our churches who did not have it heard of it and were not happy and lam putting my request across if some thing like that can be sent to us we will be happy.  Also I was given three bags of used clothing for Gushegu District and l have about ten churches there l chose only three churches form the distribution

These are

  1. Gushegu
  2. Wantugu
  3. Kpugu yagigu

The reason is that, I am been teaching these churches for sometimes ago and many of them requested Bibles from near both Dagbani and konkmba and for fortunately Tommy car gave us and Bible for our churches and I sent them along with the used clothing for the distribution. I did not want them to have only the mind of physical gift but also spiritual gift. In the distribution when you pick a clothing I added you a Bible just to tell them that the word of God is first before everything just like Mathew 6:33 in fact if not all the time but sometimes if God bless us with things like this it will help us a lot in some of the areas that work in the northern regions of Ghana.

On the month of October first and second week scheduled for the overseas churches in the District I have two over seas churches in every raining season from the beginning of August-October sometime I used to cross in the first week of October and sometimes second week to these two churches mabonbori and Gundulanyili. I had a Bible studies with them in every Wednesday and Sunday I make sure I worship with these two churches sometimes when I cross I have to look for some of them and bring them back to the churches again in the month of October lam always serious about these churches immediately lam able to cross I always with them in every Wednesdays and Sundays
In the month of November scheduled for kuga church. Church now is the hands Alhanssan Yabdoch myself and sometimes bro, paul Dokurigu.

I distributed the letters in my District and some churches in Gani area that is where chief Adams was working so far this is what have for you.

May the good lord richly bless you?

I have some pictures of I and Evangelism preton some baptisim and the distribution of used clothing

NSAWAM ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST EVAGELISTS MONTHLY REPORTS TO MISSION MINISTRY GHANA

MONTH: APRIL- JULY, 2011

PROGRAMME SCHEDULED

On the month of April, 3rd – 17th I programme myself for the churches and schools in Gushegu District. The churches are doing well and even the church in Gushegu town is also doing well for this very month I had different activities with them. Bible classes every Wednesday with the nearly villages and seminars with the church leaders once every month market days because the market days are mainly for rest. They do not go to farms and we always meet in my house I live in Gushegu in the yard because we have no church building yet we are trying to look for money to buy a land. It is our prayer and effort to buy the land for the Church in Gushegu because the church itself has no money to buy the land.

On the month April within these three weeks I also introduced the World Bible School lessons to Gushegu District. I have five J.H.S in Gushegu tow with the total of one thousand five hundred (1500) students and one S.H.S which is also two thousand (2000) students and outside J.H.S is also two thousand (2000) students because five more J.H.S are outside town which is total of five thousand five hundred (5500) students and they are all ready to received the World Bible school lessons. The lessons sent was one thousand five hundred copies and these number of copies were only up to the JHS in town, there are Waternear JHS, Demonstration JHS, L/A JHS, E/A JHS and Marikazia JHS and some few students from the SHS and that was all the lesson. Now I am still waiting for the lessons for the rest of the school in the District, kindly pray for the Churches and the students who have just started the World Bible school lessons to know the truth.

On the Month May first and second week I went back to these schools to gather the lessons for postage and during the collection some student asked me so many questions about the lesson and I did explained to them and now anytime I am in Gushegu many of them used to come and study the Bible with me just to be able to study the lessons well. The Senior High Students who used to come to me some are Christians and I also visit them in the school with a plan of having campus ministry with and I am sure God willing will do it.

On the month of June there was a second lesson given back to the students in Yendi Municipality in May which we decided to be post in fist week of June. In the firs=t week of June I went round the schools to collect the second lessons of W.B.S which was given to them in May 2011. We all have areas we work with in distributing and collecting of W.B.S lesson in Yendi. I have eight schools which I work with WBS in Yendi Municipality, there are Gnai, Yendi Presby, Nayakubu, Malezery, Sunsong, Sang Islamic No.1 and 2 and Kpabia JHS these are the schools I work with the WBS lessons in Yendi Municipality. You know I work with the Churches and WBs in Gushegu District which I mention already and Yendi we have so many schools and Churches and sometimes I scheduled my work both Gushegu and Yendi just because of the work load in Yendi. For example where Chief Adams works we preachers sometimes shared the area among ourselves and even if I am in Gushegu I have to comedown to Yendi to take part before going back to Gushegu.

On the month of July form 17th, 24th and 31st I taught in Kuga Church on the topic of ‘Eternal God how God’s supreme and sovereign for these three weeks. What even made me happy was that, upon all Papa Musah cannot read his contribution on this topic was very great. The lesson was very interesting throughout. Infact the old man is encouraging the church. He used his wisdom and sometimes brings out quotations I continue to asked for more prayer for the oldman.

On the same month of July 25th we had a naming ceremony in Kpanashe one of the churches in Gushegu District. We had a brother in the church name Issahaku who is the leader of the church in Kpanashe Issahaku is from a Muselem family and for that matter the family are not happy of his Christianity and it has mad him long time to get a wife just because of his a Christian. Sometime his own brothers would discourage the woman and his will tell Issahaku to become a Muselem or etes Issahaku said no you know God been so good last two years papa Musah found him a woman in Yendi and she accepted him and they marriage and she gave birth to a baby girls in Kpanashe. The Mallams of the community wanted to name the child but Issahaku did not allow them to do so and sent a massage to we evangelists on the 25th July 2011 evangelist and some members of Kuga church moved to Kpanashe for the name ceremony of brother Issahaku newly born baby girl. A sermon was preach by brother Alhassan Yabdoo and the whole community gathered as there are first time of witness a Christians naming ceremony in Kpanashe. Actually the church there was almost dead because it was left with some few people and after the outdooring the community is calling back that they are ready to accept the church fully. Even one Mallam said he was discouraging them and now he promised not do that again we will soon be there to win more soul for Christ and we are asking for prayers to do the work for the glary of God. So far this is what I have for you.

May the good lord richly bless you.

Thank you.

NSAWAM ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST EVANGELISTS QUARTERLY REPORT TO MISSIONS
MINISTRY, ACCRA-GHANA, FOR THE PERIOD, JULY TO SEPTEMBER, 2011.

Dear Brothers-in-Christ,
I wish to extend my sincere greetings to you all, and to tell you that
I and my family are doing well, by the Grace of God. In the course of
the past three months, July, 2011 to September, 2011, a number of
activities have taken place in the spheres of outreach, inreach and
upreach.

1. OUTREACH:The out-dooring or naming ceremony of a new-born is a very
important occasion in Ghana. In Northern Ghana, it is a big occasion
where parents and relatives of both the man and the woman must be
present. Friends of both parties from far and near are invited. Their
presence provides an opportunity to preach the Word to them.
On Monday, 4th July, 2011, I went to Wambung, a village about twenty
kilometres east of Yendi, to name a baby-girl. I left Yendi at about
12.30 p.m GMT. I got to Wambung at about 1.45 p.m. GMT. I delayed
partly due to the bad nature of the road and the poor condition of my
motor-bike.
When I got there, the people were dancing to traditional music. When
they heard that I had come, they stopped the dancing and welcomed me.
After we exchanged greetings we did not waste much time before
starting the naming ceremony.
We began with songs of praise for about fifteen minutes before I
started preaching. I preached on the Garden of Eden and how God gave
man dominion over all creatures(Gen.2:7-9;15-25). After the preaching
a number of visitors gave themselves to Christ. The naming of the
child followed immediately after the preaching had ended. The child
was named Gifty. After a short treat to traditional music and dance I
left for Yendi.

On Wednesday, July 27, 2011, I preached to the Scripture Union(SU) at
my school's closing ceremony in the assembly hall. The Scripture Union
is made up of all the denominational churches, and I have been chosen
as their Patron to preach to them and advise them occasionally. The
text that I preached to them was Ephessians 6:1-4. Students, as well
as masters who were present at the closing ceremony, enjoyed the
sermon.

From 9th August, 2011 to 10th August, 2011, all preachers of the Yendi
Municipality helped to distribute some used clothing sent to us by the
Village of Hope charity at Gomoah Fetteh in the Central Region of
Ghana. The beneficiaries of this charity were the rural congregations
within and outside the Yendi Municipality. The items were brought by
Brother Dan, a deacon of the Gomoah Fetteh Church and Seth, the
driver. They took us round these communities to do the distribution on
both the first and second day. On the first day we visited seven
communities, namely; Andoyili, Kanimo, Diisikura, Bachibodo, Zugu,
Gbungbaliga,and Bakpaba.

On the second day we went to Kuga for the distribution exercise. After
that we visited the Kuga chief, Brother Abdulai Adams. He was very
happy when we paid him the courtesy call. He told us that he would
release as much land as the Church needed for her projects, if we
requested for it. He said he needed our prayer and encouragement to
keep him in the faith, since there were so many obstacles in his way
as a traditional chief in Dagbon. We conversed at length with him
before departing at about 11.30 a.m. GMT. We prayed for him before
leaving the palace.

The following day, Thursday, 11th August, 2011, our two Brothers left
Yendi for Gomoah Fetteh. They have since left a mark in the
municipality and beyond. Because, some of the items they brought went
to Gushegu and Bakpaba which are in different districts. This has also
turned the people's attention once more towards the Church.

On Sunday, 14th August, 2011, Brother David Wumbei and I went to
Yingsala, a suburb of Yendi, to perform the out-dooring ceremonies of
two babies - a boy and a girl. Since it was on a Sunday, we went early
to worship with the congregation. At the tail end of the worship, we
chipped in the naming ceremony. The boy was named Abraham, and the
girl, Gifty. After the worship and naming ceremony, there was
traditional drumming and dancing. We left for Yendi shortly after the
drumming and dancing begun. We got to Yendi at about 4.35 p.m GMT.

On Saturday, 27th August, 2011, I was called to Wambung once more to
perform the naming ceremoy of a baby-boy. I went there at
approximately the same time I went the first time. The ceremony did
not take a long time since I was in a hurry to return to Yendi in time
to carry out another assignment. The child was named Noah, so I
preached on Gen. 6:1-21. The people were very pleased and invited me
to come back another time to baptize some young boys and girls who had
given themselves to Christ. After that I left for Yendi.

On Sunday, 4th September, 2011, Brother David and I went to Wambung to
baptize the ten young boys and girls who had earlier given themselves
to Christ. They were four boys and six girls. Since it was on a
Sunday, we worshipped with the congregation before the baptism
exercise. They were taken to the outskirts of the village where there
is a dug-out and baptized. We each baptized five converts. Brother
David and I advised these young boys and girls to live good exemplary
lives for the community and others outside it to see that they were
exceptional. The Church leader and his assistant also took turns to
advise them. After that, we returned to the village. We spent about an
hour with the congregation before leaving for Yendi. We got to Yendi
at about 4.00 p.m. GMT.
The young boys and girls who were baptized include:
1. Sayibu Binyibiyoan Amos.
2. Waja Mensah John.
3. Danaa Koju Timothy.
4. Nigmaba Shababa James.
5. Sayibu Esther.
6. Nigmaba Afia Dorcas.
7. Ntigma Ngmabil Joice.
8. Ntigma Naju Cynthia.
9. Inimon Nmowal Rebecca.
10. Inimon Gmayii Gifty.

On Sunday, 11th September, 2011, all members of the Yendi congregation
attended a funeral in Yendi town. I was part of the delegation who
attended the funeral. The deceased was a suitor to one of our church
sisters who had a child with him. The deceased man's family,
especially the maternal, were very happy when they saw us in our
numbers at the funeral, though we are Christians and they are moslems.
We donated what we had to the family and left the funeral house in an
hour's time. After we left the place, people passed a lot of positive
comments about the Church; the love and care we have for each other.
Even though the two were not properly married, the church still showed
their love and concern for the church sister.

On Sunday, 30th September, 2011, I sent WBS marked lessons and fresh
booklets to Kulkpiniduli, Machelayili(Nalogni), and Zakpalsi.

2. INREACH: The weekly Preachers' meetings are still in existence.
On Wednesday, 27th July, 2011, we(preachers) of the Yendi Municipality
met Elder Christian Nsowah, Brother Dan Mcvey, and Brother Isaac
Adotey. The meeting was called by the three to mentor us on how to
manage the churches under our care efficiently and effectively, and
how to co-operate with one another.
Brother Isaac led the discussions with scripture backings, while the
rest of us listened and contributed our quota. I did all the readings.
Elder Christian Nsowah was the second to talk to us. He gave us some
encouraging talks to keep us smooth going in our work. After he had
finished, Brother Dan Macvey also took turn to contribute his quota.
The three speakers also centred their talks on how to bring up quality
Christians.

On Saturday, 30th August, 2011, two different meetings were held at
the Mission House. The first meeting was from 9.25 a.m. to 11.55 a.m.
GMT. Preachers who attended that meeting include the following:
1. Brother George Dassah--Tamale Church of Christ.
2. " " Emmanuel Buwalti-- Zabzugu Church of Christ.
3. " " Abdulai A. Andrews--Yendi Church of Christ.
4. " " Musah Fusheini-- Gushiegu Church of Christ,
5. " " Paul Dokurugu N.--Yendi West(rural churches) Church of Christ.
The meeting was centred on the impending Annual Bible Camp to be held
in Yendi this year. The original date for the Bible Camp was fixed for
Sunday, 18th December, 2011, to Wednesday, 21st December, 2011.The
venue was Yendi Senior High School. The camp fee was fixed at GHC 4.00
per participant. The theme of the Bible Camp was "A Complete Christian
Life".
After applying to the school for accommodation and the use of school
facilities, we were told the date chosen for our programme was not
feasible, since schools would still be in session. The date was then
shifted to Thursday, 22nd December, 2011 to Sunday, 25th December,
2011.

At 4.00 p.m. the same day, the normal preachers' meeting was held at
the Church premises. A lot of items were discussed at the meeting.
They include the following: a briefing on the meeting that took place
earlier in the morning, the upcoming Church of Christ fiftieth
anniversary celebration, Project Timothy affairs, Youth Camp etc. All
these discussions were aimed at improving the physical and spiritual
lives of our congregations.
On Friday, 12th August, 2011, another meeting was held to assess the
progress of some of the things that we had intended to do.

I conduct the Sunday school and evening Bible class any time I visit
my congregations.I have also been put on the Yendi church programme to
teach the Sunday school, preach the sermon and conduct the Sunday
evening Bible classes from time to time. I was in Yendi Church on
Sunday, 7th August, 2011, to conduct the Sunday School before the
sermon.

On 11th September, 2011, I taught the Sunday evening Bible class in
Yendi Church.
I conducted the Sunday school in Yendi church on Sunday, 18th September, 2011.
I was to teach the evening Bible class in Yendi Church on Sunday, 25th
September, 2011, when Brother Andrews came around to do it. I only
participated in the lesson conducted.

We still teach Bible Knowledge(B.K.) in our Day-care and Primary
school. We teach there weekly.
Each preacher is expected to go there once in a week.

3. UPREACH - 1. Sunday Worship: I lead my congregations every Sunday
in worship, except the Sundays I visit Brother Adams' congregations or
Yendi Church.
On Sunday, July 3, 2011, I worshipped in Yendi Church. I was not put
on the programme to perfom any task, so I only did the Dagbani
interpretation of the Sunday School for Elder Peter Bombande.

On Sunday, 10th July, 2011, I went to Machelayili (Nalogni) to lead
the congregation in the Sunday worship. I carried along some posters
for the impending fiftieth anniversary celebration of the Church of
Christ in Ghana. This was an invitation to every congregation in the
country to participate in the celebrations. I also informed them that
every congregation was expected to contribute her widow's mite to
ensure the success of the anniversary celebration.

From there I came back to Nadundo to meet their church leader, Brother
Andrews. By the time I got there, they had closed from their worship
and I had to go to the leader's house to meet him. I had a few
discussions with him on how to keep his congregation together, since
he complained that some denominational churches had taken some of his
church members. I urged him not to give up. I got home late that
Sunday.

I worshipped with Yendi Church on Sunday, 17th July, 2011, since my
motor-bike could not take me to any of my congregations outside Yendi
that day. I went with my family in a taxi cab which I had hired to
take us to and from Church that day. The day was meant for for "songs
of praise". As a result, there was no Sunday School and Sermon. It was
a very inspiring programme.

The following Sunday, 24th July, 2011, I went to Kanimo to worship
with the congregation there. After the worship, I went to Diisikura. I
met both congregations.
On Sunday, 31st July, 2011, went back to Diisikura to worship and
discuss an issue which they brought to me the previous week, but I
could not discuss it with them. I left the congregation at about 3.20
p.m. GMT. I stopped at Kanimo on my way from Diisikura, just to greet
the church leader there.

Early on Sunday, 7th August, 2011, I conducted the Sunday School in
Yendi Church as I was put on their church programme for that Sunday.
Brother Stephen K. Morogo delivered the sermon. It was a very
inspiring sermon.

I went to Yingsala with Brother David Wumbei on Sunday, 14th August,
2011. We worshipped with the congregation there. Brother David
conducted the Sunday school and I conducted the sermon. This
congregation is one of Brother Adams ( Kuganaa's ) congregations. It
was my first time of visiting that congregation. We left the village
at about 1.15 p.m. GMT.

On Sunday, 21st August, 2011, I worshipped with Kuga church. I
attended with my family since it had been a long time we visited that
congregation. I delivered the sermon. I had pre-informed them of my
visit. After the worship I went with my family to greet Brother Adams(
Kuganaa), as I had not seen him for a long time. He welcomed us nicely
as Christian brothers and sisters. We spent about thirty minutes with
him.

The following week, Sunday, 28th August, 2011, I worshipped with the
Jagrido congregation. It was in the middle of the rainy season and the
stream was full to capacity. I nearly returned to Yendi, but after a
short prayer of encouragement, I gathered courage and waded through
the stream with my motor-bike. I was so wet that when I got to Jagrido
I had to dry my shoes and socks. I could not dry my trousers because I
had none to change.
On my way back after worship I waded through the water again at waist
level. I got to Yendi still wet.

I worshipped with the Wambung congregation on Sunday, 4th September,
2011. On that day, I went with Brother David Wumbei. We baptized ten
young boys and girls after the worship.

From Sunday, 11th September, 2011 to Sunday, 25th September, 2011, I
worshipped with Yendi Church. This was partly due to the fact that my
motor-bike was not in a good condition and I was also put on the Yendi
Church programme for those three weeks.
On 11th and 18th September, 2011, I was tasked to conduct the Sunday
evening Bible classes. On 25th September, 2011, I preached the sermon
and conducted the Sunday evening class.

2. Fasting and Prayers: We, the Preachers, still fast and pray on the
first Wednesday of every month for our partners. The second
Wednesdays' fasting and prayers are still meant for the physical and
spiritual growth of the Church in Yendi and its environs.
Some of the congregations still fast and pray every last Friday of the
month. Yendi church, however, has shifted from the last Friday of the
month to the last Saturday of the month.

CONCLUSION: From the above-mentioned, one can conclude that the work
in the North is still going on smoothly. I would like to quote a
proverb given by a renowned African writer, Chinua Achebe, that "The
lizard who fell from the high iroko tree said he would praise himself
if no one else did".
Even though the going is not easy for us in a muslim dominated area,
we are forging ahead. God will continue to make a way where there is
none.
I, and all the preachers and members of our congregations, have not
forgotten the efforts that you are putting in to make the work in the
North continue going. God Amighty will bless you all and your families
for your support for His work. THANK YOU.

NB: This time around, I have not been able to send you pictures on my
baptism exercise, because my son deleted the pictures which I
downloaded onto my PC. when he was formatting it. I hope to do that
next time.

NSAWAM ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST EVANGELISTS QUARTERLY REPORT TO MISSIONS
MINISTRY, ACCRA-GHANA, FOR THE PERIOD, APRIL-JUNE, 2011.

Dear Brothers-in-Christ,

In the past three months a lot of activities have taken place in the
spheres of Outreach, Up-reach and In-reach.I would like to begin with
the outreach.

OUTREACH.
On Saturday, 2nd April, 2011, my wife, in the company of Brother
Andrews and some women from Yendi Church, attended a church member's
mother's funeral at Sandema in the Upper East Region of Ghana. I could
not go because of lack of space on the vehicle. This journey, I am
told, impressed many people. This showed to people that we have the
love for one another.

We (Preachers) met on Tuesday, 12th April, 2011, to discuss our late
father, Ajekum's funeral. A date was fixed and duties were assigned to
individuals. I was tasked to write the tribute in Dgbani. I did as
requested. We discussed the writing and distribution of invitation
letters: when and whom to give to.

On Saturday, 16th April, 2011, we met again to finalise the programme
on Dada Ajekum's funeral. All who were tasked with duties reported on
their work progress so far. The invitation letters were ready and
every preacher was tasked to distribute them. We took them and
distributed accordingly.

On 15th April, 2011, I ministered an out-dooring ceremony in Yendi.
Brother Laar Moses' wife was delivered of a bouncing baby girl.
Members of Yendi Church, including non-members, were present. Brother
Andrews Alhassan preached a short, but inspiring sermon before the
naming of the child was done.

Brother David Wumbei's marriage was blessed on 24th April, 2011. The
marriage was blessed by Brother Andrews. This created an opportunity
for the gospel to be preached to non-members of the church. People
were very happy for the simple nature of the blessing. I was present
throughout the ceremony and did the translations and reading of the
scriptures. It was a very successful ceremony.

From 29th April to 30th April, 2011, we were engaged in the funeral
preparations of our late father and grandfather, Ajekum Dasana. The
wake-keeping took place at his village, Gbungbaliga, on 29th April,
2011, from 8.00pm GMT to 11.00pm GMT. This occasion involved singing
of praise songs to God, and a sermon preached by Bro. Musah Fusheini.
I said the closing prayer.
The following day, 30th April,2011, the final funeral rites was
observed. It involved many activities. All the outlying communities
were invited to this occasion. Other church denominations attended as
a gesture of brotherhood. Non-Christians were present. We prayed and
sang songs of praise to God. I read the tribute on behalf of the
Church. The family also read their tribute. There was a sermon by Bro.
Andrews. It was very much appreciated by the visiting church
denominations and the non-christians who attended the ceremony.
On Sunday, 1st May, 2011, we had a "Thanksgiving" worship for God
having seen us successfully through the funeral celeberations. The
late Ajekum's family and relatives paid us a visit in Yendi Church
while we were having the "Thanksgiving" worship.

On Monday, 9th May, 2011, I took delivery of three boxes of WBS
lessons destined for Jimle, Zakpalsi, Nalogni and Kulkpini-duli. The
following day, 10th May, 2011, I sent the first consignment to
Kulkpini-duli and Nalogni. The second consignment was sent the
following day, 11th May, 2011, to Jimle and Zakpalsi.

I visited the Church school with Bro. Musah Fusheini to have
first-hand information on what is happening there. We met the
Headteacher and his teaching staff. After an hour wth them, we left
the school.

Brothers Andrews, Fusheini, Alhassan, David and I, visited an old
woman at Zugu, a village about four kilometres south of Yendi. She is
a member of the church, and her house was completely destroyed by a
rainstorm. We prayed for her and comforted her.

On 26th May, 2011, I collected worked WBS lessons from Nalogni and
Kulkpini-duli for onward postage.

Bro. Andrews, David and I, went to Kanimo on Thursday, 2nd, June,
2011, to pray for and encourage a christian brother who had been
traumatised, because the leg of a bird was found in their soup, when
they had not killed any bird for soup. The family had eaten the soup
before seeing this bird leg.

I attended a Parent-Teacher Association meeting at the Church school
as Chairman of the Management Board. The meeting commenced at 8.00am
GMT and ended at about 12.00 noon.

On 26th June,2011, Bro. David and I baptised ten (10) people at
Frigmado, a village about eleven kilometres north-west of Yendi,
across the river Daka. The baptised were four young men and six girls.
Two others did not turn up for the occasion.

I ministered at an out-dooring ceremony at Wambung, a village fifteen
kilometres east of Yendi. The people were very delighted when I took
them through the biblical creation of "man". A number of those who
were not Christians agreed to give themselves to Christ. The church
leader told me to find time and come back there to baptise a number of
those who agreed to accept Christ as their personal saviour.

IN-REACH
The usual Preachers' meetings are still on-going. On Wednesday, 6th
April, 2011, we met to review activities for the week. We also
discussed issues bothering on ways of strengthening the various
congregations and supporting the congregations that were under
Brothers Adams and Musah. We also talked about fasting and praying for
our partners in the Lord's Work especially, Nsawam Road and our
brothers in the U.S.A.
Same meetings were held on the 16th, and 23rd April, 2011. On 7th May,
14th May, 21st May and 28th May, 2011, the preachers meetings were
held. On that same day, 28thMay, 2011, we met with Elders Josiah
Tilton, Nathaniel Adams Snr. and three other whites from the U.S.A.
They encouraged us in our work and gave us some advice.
On June11 and June 29, 2011, we met. Discussions were centred on
collection and posting of the worked WBS lessons.

UP-REACH
1. Sunday Worship: Sunday worship has gone on smoothly, though I have
shuttled between the eastern and western corridors of the Yendi
Municipality. For the month of April, I have visited the following
congregations: Yendi Church -03/04/11. We had fasting and prayers
there. Kpalgagbini-10/04/11. Yendi Church-17/04/11. It was a special
occasion that I attended with my family. 24/04/11-Marriage blessing at
Yendi Church. 27/04/11 was declared a day of fasting and prayer in
Yendi Church of which I am a member. We fasted on that day and met in
the evening at 4.00pm to pray and sing praises to God to see us
successfully through our late father, Ajekum's funeral activities.
2. Fasting and Prayers, Songs of Praise: This is still going on in the
various congregations on prescribed days, usually on the last Fridays
of every month. We as preachers still fast and pray for our partners
in the "Lord's Work", most especially Nsawam Road and our American
Brothers. Congregations like Bachibodo, Jagrido and Machelayili
/Nalogni, do fast and pray on the days mentiioned above.

CONCLUSION
The work is going on well as the congregations continue to meet, even
in the absence of a preacher. What we need is your continued prayer
and support. We do pray for you as you also continue to pray for us.
God Bless You All, SHALLOM!

NB: Please, find attached some photographs taken at Dada Ajekum'
funeral, my visit to the Church school and the baptism I conducted at
Frigmado.

Andrews Abdulai, Jan-Mar 2011, Report from Yendi, Ghana

NSAWAM ROAD CHURCH OF CHRIST EVANGELISTS QUARTERLY REPORTS TO MISSIONS MINISTRY, ACCRA-GHANA.

MONTHS: JANUARY TO MARCH 2011.

INTRODUCTION:

We thank the Lord God Almighty for ushering us into the 2011 year. To Him is the glory, the power forever and ever, Amen. In this work report include the work I have done in the first quarter of 2011 which might not capture every bit of the activities I have done yet to some extend it covers most of what the Lord has led me achieved. These include edification (re-opening of Project Timothy, annual ministers and wives party, visitation to village congregations, the unspitual attitude of Thomas, Campus ministry in Yendi Senior High) and on evangelism (WBS 2011 campaign, plans to form a youth club-Friends of Christ-FOC, preaching at Macheleyili, reactivation of hygiene volunteers in the village community to be led by church members through Church of Christ Rural Water Development Program.

EDIFICATION:

Once again Project Timothy resumed on the 14th of February to 4th March 2011. The evangelists have continued teaching the students as leaders who hold the village congregations.

By the grace of God I was able to visit Bro. James Taphamba in Tatale (148km) on the 9th of January 2011. Service there was great as the congregation sang beautifully to glory God our Father. I was given the opportunity to preach which I did as the Lord led me. Tatale is 74 km from Yendi.

On the 16th of January 2011, ministers of the gospel in Yendi town gathered at the Catholic Church bishop’s residence and had an annual party. This party is an annual one for ministers and their wives which is a time of reflection on the past years activities. It serves as an opportunity for the iron to be sharpened by another iron. Individual ministers who are touched with any message of encouragement are permitted to deliver it to the other ministers for their edification and upliftment.

While we are praying and working hard to unite the church, there are still some elements whose parochial interest will dent the church and negatively affect it if left. One of such is Thomas Yigmam at Tamambiya who resides at Ngani now and was working with the Reynolds family but no more works with them. He wanted to change some the names of the Churches of Christ in the villages to a denominational church (Victorious Child Evangelical Ministry International) which I was called to help solve the problem. Indeed we put in our little effort which the Lord used to explain to the congregations that it will be unwise to follow such self-centered interest of Thomas. His intention as he moved around where formally Brother Adams was working to spread his diabolic message. Thanks to God that all the brethren understood him and fully avoid him.

On the 3 March I was in Ngani village to meet with the brethren and to encourage them as they have stood firmly for God for the past years.

The campus ministry in Yendi Senior High is also going on well. In order to be meeting the student for Sunday service we have fix their worship time at 7am so that one is able to be part of the school service even when he is leaving for village. On the 12th of March was the handover day from the outgoing students’ leadership to the incoming ones. It was a moment of oneness. We are praying that this ministry should grow to serve as a tool of evangelism in the school. Attach is a picture of the handover program.

I visited Bacheborido congregation on the 13th of March to worship with them. It is one of the big village congregations that are very spiritual. It also a place the Prestoncrest Church of Christ is assisting to have a worship place. We further had to discuss how they can step in in contributing towards the building of the church. I humbly ask them to think about how much they can contribute in the building of the church which they agreed to contribute financially and labor. The blocks are molded and we will soon try to put up the church building. One of the setbacks in our rural evangelism is our inability to build their worship places which we are now doing. It is serving as a tool of edifying and evangelizing as well. Many at time rain will drive us away when worship is in progress or when it is in the dry season and the trees shed their leaves and the members will not have shade to sit. This has been a hindrance to church attendance but we thank God we are gradually helping in that direction. Even such congregations are not able to worship at nigh which would have help in building their faith up.

The evangelists were able to fast and pray for the work on the 16th of March as usual, praying for the church in Ghana and outside Ghana. We have had several fruits out of fasting so we think it’s a tool to invite God’s approval in whatever we are doing.

Yashagu village was the place I worshiped on the 27th of the month. This is a small village congregation whose leader is a physical challenge product of Project Timothy. He is John. John is doing fine with the church and I will be glad if all who read this work report will be praying for this little congregation. They have been seriously challenged by idol worshipers. This is a village where a big idol is worshipped. The door to the room in which this idol is kept is never closed and any leaving thing that walks in there will be strike dead immediately. This is some of the challenges we face but we appreciate the hand of God in our lives because in all this the Lord has shielded us from such dangers. This congregation is given some roofing sheets to roof the worship place which was rip off by a storm this year.

I will still be asking prayer for Bro Kofi and Bawah who were once member of the Lords church and have falling. They come once in a blue moon and never appear until some other time. I know the Spirit of the Lord will fish for them as we add them to our prayer list.

The evangelists are teaching at the church school as part of our evangelism. That is teaching of the gospel to the pupils preparing them for Christ in the years to come.

With assistance from Westover Hills Church of Christ the evangelists have been able to assist Boadiyili and Kpanjamba congregations with roofing sheet. Also some are assisted with cement to plaster and floor their worship places.

Before Bro. Tom Carr arrived in Ghana he had already send some funds to me to fix a new overhead tank at the clinic guest house which I purchase in Tamale to Yendi. The arrival of the 8000 litters’ tank calls for mounting on a tall tower ment for it to supply water to some of the residence. The local brethren and the Bros. Kent, Gordon, Michael and Thomas participated to help mount the tank. It was not an easy task as it took as a long time to be able to achieve this. In all, we thank God because the tank was sent to the rightful place and now supplies the clinic and the guest house clean drinking water.

As part of the ongoing village ministry, I visited Bakpaba on the 30th of January to preach. Bakpaba is 16 miles away from Yendi. Bakpaba is one of the old congregations of the Church of Christ which has survived with all the difficult and hard times. It’s always a good time for them to see one of their preachers.

As one of the clinic management committee member we had a meeting on the 20th of March to see how best we can absorb the two new nurses who have just completed the nurses’ training school. Looking into the salaries and sectors of work within the clinic and also planning towards the clinic expansion. All went all.

EVANGELISM:

I met with Elder Nathaniel Adams of the Rural Water Development Program on the 30th of March when he came to Yendi. We had a fruitful discussion on the hygiene volunteerism in the village communities. This was once inaugurated some year’s back and many volunteers are in the villages but the CEO will want the church volunteers in the villages to lead in it so that Christ can be preached.

The evangelists fasted and prayed on the 12 January for our partners in Ghana and overseas especially the World Bible School campaign. It was a moment to pray for a save trip, peace for the American brethren coming and their families, praying for a receptive hearts among the students and teachers who are predominately Muslims and a generally smooth campaign. One of the impending ugly heads was Zohe Islamic Junior High School where the Proprietor told me they will not need us teach their students because when Christians are allowed to teach the students they will eventually convert them. We left them and never boarded until the headmaster met me on the 14th February after our brethren from States had gone and told me that they are waiting for us to come and teach at their school. I was highly surprise yet that was the reality. This result did not come on silver platter but rather as a result of fasting and prayers. Further to that was, I went to collect the WBS introduction lessons which was given to the school so that it could be given to different students in another school but to my surprise the headmaster told me that they have distributed the lessons to the students and I appointed a day with the headmaster for the collection of the lessons. Surely when I went the students had answered them and gave them to me for posting. If not the intervention of God what could change the hearts of the modern pharaoh’s than the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. We give all the glory to God our Father.

John Kambunja, one of the evangelists working with the Reynolds family died on the 7th and was buried on the 8th of January 2011. I had a number of phone calls to come and do the committals which I honored. By the grace of God it attracted a sizeable crowd. I was given the sermon which I preached leaving the committals to another preacher. I thought that a time has come when the Lord is uniting and building his church that was cracked in the past years. We will be glad if brethren will continue to be praying for us that the Lord should unit his laborers working in His vineyard that all within should be harmonious in the Yendi area. Even though it was a funeral ground I preached Christ for the village folks to understand that without Christ there is no peace on earth and life after death. At the time of the sermon every living soul was quietly listening and when we finished a number of the people came and shook hands with for the message that was delivered.

Our major evangelistic tool this quarter was the World Bible School campaign. The pre-campaign activities was fasting and prayer, meetings to plan for the campaign, meeting with Ghana Education Service officials and the delivery of WBS lessons to approximately 8 thousand Junior High Schools students in addition to two Senior High Schools. I must thank God for giving me the grace to deliver all the lessons to the 31 Junior High School in the Yendi Municipality. I have attached a picture of the lessons sitting on my motor bike. The real campaign started on the 7th of February 2011. We first and foremost visited the Municipal Director of Education with all the officials of the directorate who have assembled to welcome us and know how long we will be teaching in the schools in the Yendi municipality. The funny thing was that most of the schools thought that the visiting brethren were going to be in their respective school for one week each, which we could not have done because the number of the campaigners could not give room for that. This is also an indication that more campaigners need to be coming to augment the efforts we are putting forth. There were four brethren ( Bros. Gordon Ganzael, Michael Everist, Thomas Graham and Kent Chambers) from the West Over Hills in USA. We divided ourselves into four groups and each visited two schools in a day. This gave way to us reaching over ten thousand souls with the word of God. Even though we did not baptize anybody but the word was able to reach people who would for some reason not have the opportunity to hear it. We also took the opportunity to donate academic books to the Yendi Girls Junior High School through the Municipal Director of Education. The kind of books donated was Mathematics, English Language and Religious and Moral Education (RME).

The books donated by the American brethren were presented to the school by the Municipal Director of Education on the 22 February 2011. At the presentation was the “Parent Teacher Association” to receive the books on behalf of the school. I was happy when the director told the students that it was their friends in the Church of Christ who have sacrifice greatly for them to have their future built to take over from the elderly tomorrow.

Generally the people we visited were the Director of Education, the Municipal Chief Executive, teachers and students in all the Junior High School and the two Senior High Schools in the Municipality. The visiting brethren also took time to visit Papa Musah Dawud who is our eldest evangelist but lost his sight in the recent years. They prayed with him and encouraged him to remain steadfast in the faith. The joy among all the officials could be seen in their interactions and call for more visit in the years to come.

The group also had the opportunity to visit the Yendi Government prisons where two (2) dust bins were donated to the inmates for the collection of garbage in the prisons. The officer in charge at the prison was so happy because many have come there with big promises which were never fulfilled. They were therefore glad for the two garbage cans and requested disinfectants for cleaning the inner covered gutter in the prison yard. Last but not lease was the visitation of the Yendi leprosarium where a bag of 50kg rice, soap, water hose and charcoal were donated to five (5) lepers who are living there unattended to. The lepers could not hide their joy by telling us that they now have food to be cooking to supplement the food they get from the government through the Yendi government hospital.

The evangelists took time with the brethren from the USA to have a review meeting so as to evaluate the whole success and challenges of the WBS program. It was also a moment to encourage both sides in sacrificing for God. This followed the evangelists fasting and praying as thanks giving for God bringing the brethren from the USA safely and sending them safely too, having a successful campaign and reaching not less than about ten thousand people with the word of God.

As a regular program the evangelists fasted and prayed for the work in the north and our partners both in Ghana and the USA.

With so much thought in expanding the coverage of the WBS lessons, the evangelists with Bro. Fusheini Musah have come to an agreement to send the WBS program to Gusheigu district through him who works there. We are praying for God to lead us and prepare the ground so that word will be accepted.

One of the saddest but joyful things is that Bro. Boachi Jaakum who was working with the clinic pass away of the 7th of March 2011. Bro Jaakum was an elderly person and a member of the Yendi Church. His burial attracted a great crowd at his home village (Gbungbalga). I did the committals It is been told many times here in Dagbon that Christian do not perform funerals which some though is not a good thing if a group of God followers do not pay their last respect to a person who has labored and leaving the earth for his final rest in heaven. As a result of this we have always tried to gather as large as we can to diffuse this negative mind set. This point is one the reasons some of the Dagomba people (tribe) do not like Christianity. Bro. Jaakum funeral will be performing on the 29 and 30th of April at Gbungbalga. The church will be there in fullness, inviting the village congregations in addition to the Yendi church. It will be a ground to preach the word, encourage ourselves and preach the word to the non-Christians.

Lord willing the a member of the Yandi church lost her mother last year and the funeral took place in Sandema in the Upper East Region of Ghana where three ladies and two men making a delegation of five were assigned to attend the funeral which I was one of the five. We left home at 5: 30am and returned 8:00pm travelling in and out of about 750km on that day. This was a long tiring journey as we travelled on a road that is not totally tarred. Our presence was an encouragement to the sister and her husband. They are both members of the Lord’s church in Yendi. When we were going to return the elderly women in the family fetched some quantity of groundnut (peanut) and added two guinea fowls for as a symbol of us reaching the funeral ground. We turn the guinea fowl back. It was a display of African culture when the elder gave us those gifts.

We received sixteen (16) boxes of the World Bible School lesson for some Junior High School in the Yandi Municipality and I was able to distribute twelfth (12) of the boxes to the various schools with Bro. David Wumbei giving the other four (4) boxes to one of the schools. We gave them the dates on which we will return to collect the answer sheets but the Junior High Schools closed before the date we thought we could collect it. Even with the early closure of the schools we were able to take some of the lessons. This is aimed at facilitating the flow of the lessons from the students to their teacher in the USA. We hope brethren will join us in prayer in the regards so that the Lord will touch the hearts of the students to surrender to Christ who will give us the full peace and joy we need here on earth and in heaven.

I have thought of coming out with a youth club “Friends of Christ (FOC)” to accompany the WBS lessons. It may help in the sustenance as it should be directed towards Christ and the future of the children. One of the topics that I thought will be good is carrier awareness with which we will engage some of the times the Ghana Education Service Office in Yendi but this will depend on the kind of topics to be treated. I have discussed this with the preachers and will see how best we can coordinate this in our work to serve as a backup to the WBS program here in Yendi.

As part of our rural evangelism we went to Bacheborido during the visit of the brethren from Westover Hills Church of Christ to show Jesus Film in Konkomba language but the generator developed a fault which did not permit us do the video. We are handicapped in showing the village cinema due to the lack of means (van) to carry the cinema gadgets to the village communities. While we still grapple with other needs and challenges we still will need to lay this before brethren for prayer as it is one of the methods we use to evangelize in the rural communities.

We need prayers as you have always done for us to lead us in the rightful direction as we struggle as human to beauty the name of the Lord among those who do not see him in His total beauty. We give all the glory to God as our Father and Christ our Lord through whom we have life and hope forever.

CHALLENGES

Our major challenge is the completion of the Yendi church building complex. We are appealing to brethren in Ghana and outside Ghana to pray with us in getting funds for the completion of the project. The completion will give way to the church service within town and the church nursery school to move in. Also is the building of worship places for some of the village congregations.

Shalom,

Alhassan Abdulai Andrews

History of the work in Saboba (written in 2006)

HISTORY OF THE WORK IN SABOBA
(March 2006)
Following is a systematic report of our new mission field for your perusal and study.

Immediately after my graduation, my wife and I had a Macedonian call to a place called SABOBA to do missions. We saw it as an opened door but to be sure of God's involvement in the calling, we gave ourselves to prayers and fasting and also told the vision to brothers like; DAN MCVEY, TWUMASIANKRAH and others for advice, suggestions and supportive prayers for God to speak to us. After much prayer, we accepted the challenge to move to the area. We were directed by the Spirit in obedience and moved with all my family finally into this new mission field last year April 5, 2005 respectively. The place is situated eastward of my formal place Yendi in the Northern Region. It is 36 miles away from Yendi. With all humility, we have to leave our comforts, privileges, and all other opportunities behind us and move to fulfill the great commission of our Master and Lord.

THE MISSIONARY'S FAMILY INFORMATION.

Mama Victoria and I have been married for sixteen years now. We have three (3) sons and three (3) dependants who are permanently staying with us. In all, we are a family of eight- (8) people. Victoria and I have pledged our lives, energy, time and resources to the great commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By the grace of our Lord, we pledged to witness or share the salvation grace of our Lord to many people within our reach. My wife is so wonderful and I am thankful to God because, she is a great encouragement to me in ministry. We are ender the stress of learning new culture, new language, and everything to be able to communicate Christ effectively. Following are names of us as a family;

THE MISSION FIELD INFORMATION.

Saboba is one of the most deprived and neglected communities in terms of human resources and economical activities. It is just sharing a river boundary with Togo. The language spoken in Saboba is KUNKOMBA. The common religion practiced is idol worship, while Christianity and Islam are also penetrating.
Because of the deprived nature of the area, there is a widespread illiteracy, which is making Christian witnessing very difficult. Satan has operated in the area for so long such that, the area needs Christianity for God's deliverance. The people are very friendly and loving. Besides all other problems in the area, poverty rate is so high such that, the Lord's Church is struggling with financial crisis always. But again, the people are receptive to the Gospel.
It takes me 100 miles now to access my mails. Fortunately, space phone is operational within the area, so that is my easiest medium of communication. Because of lack of good roads and other social amenities, everything is costing higher than normal such as fuel, accommodation etc. No fuelling stations, so fuel can only be found at the roadsides in bottles where the measurements is small and cost higher than normal. No good schools for my children. But it is a ripped field for missions. The Lord is adding to us daily such as been saved. Because of the rapid growth of the work, I am being encouraged and helped to rise above my challenges in the work.

THE CHURCH.

The Lord's Church was established in Saboba by joint efforts in 1997, with over 100 people been baptized. It was finally handed over to a trained leader to handle whiles we were visiting the Church from Yendi time to time when ever there was an opportunity. While I was then in Yendi, I was also working within the same area in the villages preaching and establishing Churches, training of leaders.
Because of lack of leadership skills and other related problems, the Church in Saboba could not grow. The Church was handed over to me last April 2005 when I finally moved there with only seventeen members. By the grace of God, however, the Church is back to its feet where we count roughly eighty to ninety every Sunday. Besides this congregation in the town, we can also talk of 27 congregations within the District of Saboba now. We are three Evangelists within the District where each has his own area of operation but we come together to plan. These congregations are far apart from one another yet, it requires constant and frequent visitations and encouragements. That is why the need for bicycles to enable leaders to help visit them regularly. The Church in Saboba Township is still worshipping in a public school classroom due to lack of funds to put up a meeting place.

CHALLENGES.

Our greatest challenge is to by God's grace defeat Islam and idol worship. It is also our prayer to enter our neighboring country Togo with the Gospel. We are also praying for God to empower the Church to establish educational institutions to help eliminate illiteracy in the area. Above all, for the kingdom of God to reign in the hearts of the people.

CHURCH OF CHRIST, SABOBA,

NOTE: As of 2011, the Saboba Church of Christ now is worshipping in their own building that seats 400 and the attendance averages around 250. The Lord continues to bless this work greatly!
